Texas State Longhorns

Goodnight and Loving herded Texas longhorns on the trail. "As trail cattle their equal has never been known and never will be," said Goodnight of the breed. "They can go farther without water and endure more suffering than others." Since 1948, Ft. Griffin has been home to the official Texas State Longhorn herd, retaining the genetic purity of the breed. The herd, now numbering over 250, roams the park and archaeological sites.
